How AI Vision is used in the sawmill
A sawmill reduced downtime and boosted profits to detect and prevent timber misrouting in real time.
To achieve good profitability, timber must flow continuously through the sawmill. Timber often ends up in the wrong place due to, for example, double feeding or skewed logs in conveyors.
Downtime eats up valuable time and monitoring is a stressful task for operators. Production problems that are not immediately detected and addressed quickly worsen. In the worst case scenario, expensive machine parts wear out.
AI Vision's system uses standard IP cameras that monitor the conveyor belts in sawmills. Every log or board is tracked in real time. If timber ends up where it shouldn't, depending on the rules set by the business, the system automatically alerts operators and stops the machines so that the problems can be resolved.
By warning and stopping in time, downtime is reduced overall and higher profitability is achieved in the plant. At the same time, the need for monitoring is reduced and the busy operators free up time for other tasks.
